Sharjeel presides over 21st meeting of Board of Directors of Trans Karachi

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed Trans Karachi to gear up the development work on the BRT Red Line project.

He said that after completion of 22 km long project it will be easier for the citizens of Malir and East District to reach the city center. Provincial Minister & Chairman Trans Karachi Sharjeel Inam Memon said this while presiding over the 21st meeting of the Board of Directors of Trans Karachi at his office on Friday.

The minister said that all the issues of contractors should be solved so that pace of work on the project intensified. He directed Secretary Transport to convene high level official meeting with K- electric next week at his office on the issue of transfer of utility lines on the route of red line.

He said that within couple of days he himself would pay visit of BRT Red Line Corridor to inspect the progress. Earlier, the board meeting gave approval to the minutes of its 21st meeting . The board also approved to form it’s various sub-committees .

The board of directors also reviewed the progress of infrastructure development of BRT Red Line project . CEO Trans Karachi Wasif Ijal gave detailed briefing on the progress of the Red Line project and said that lot one construction zone from Malir Halt to Mosimayat has been handed over to the contractor for the construction of infrastructure.

He added that 60 percent of the 3 km storm water drain from Tank Chowk to Check Post No. 6 has been completed. Excavation for construction of underpass at Tipu Sultan Society has been completed , while excavation of Hydrant-Race Course underpass is in progress.

He further briefed that construction of stations at Check Post No. 6, Race Course and Tipu Sultan Society has been started.

He further informed that the work has also been started on the Malir Halt Bus Depot. He said that the work on lot 2 from Mosimyat to Numaish Chowrangi is in progress at fast pace. Foundation of NED University, Karachi University and Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center stations have been completed . He pointed out that shifting of utility installation was the major issue in the project .

Secretary Transport Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority Altaf Sario, Justice Retired Muhammad Shaiq Usmani, Professor Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, CEO Trans Karachi Wasif Ijal, Secretary Trans Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Lalani and others attended the meeting.
