Shipment of Indian wheat arrived

JALALABAD: The first shipment of 8000 tons of wheat donated by India has arrived in eastern Nangarhar province via the Chabahar Port of Iran, officials said Monday.

India has donated 110,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan through the Chabahar Port and being kept in godowns in seven provinces of the country.

Attaullah Khugyani, spokesman of Nangarhar governor, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that 8000 tons of Indian wheat arrived in the province and handed over to provincial officials during a ceremony here on Monday.

Addressing the ceremony, director agriculture and livestock Rafiullah Rahimzai said the wheat would be distributed among the needy people.

The government officials thanked India for the wheat assistance.

To bypass Pakistan, Afghanistan is importing and exporting goods to world via the Chabahar Port in Iran following trade problems with Pakistan.
