KABUL (Khaama Press): The Turkish police have announced that 40 Afghan asylum seekers were detained during an inspection of cargo trucks in the city of Amasya.
Turkish media reported on Saturday, March 30th, that these refugees had concealed themselves in a food-carrying truck travelling from the city of Agri to Istanbul.
According to Turkish authorities, these Afghan refugees will be deported after completing the necessary administrative procedures.
Reports indicate that many refugees, including women, were between 18 and 25 years old.
This comes as the process of detaining and deporting Afghan refugees from Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan has increased in recent months.
Previously, Turkish media reported on the detention of hundreds of Afghan refugees due to a “lack of residency documents in Turkey.”
According to the Ministry of Interior of Turkey, nearly 50 individuals have been detained in various cities of the country over the past three months on charges of “human trafficking.”
The Turkish Ministry of Interior emphasized that in 2023, 68,687 Afghan migrants were detained in the country, and some of them were deported.
Meanwhile, Turkish authorities have stated that operations to combat the entry and detention of illegal migrants throughout Turkey will continue.
It is worth mentioning that according to official statistics, more than 300,000 Afghan migrants are living in Turkey.
