Umer to clash against Aziz

PESHAWAR: Kashan Umer upset top seeded 10-year-old Hamza Roman while Aziz Khan recorded victory against Kamran Khan by taking berth into the Under-14 final of the ongoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  Tennis Open being played here at Synthetic Courts of the Qayyum Sports Complex on Thursday.

The semi-final matches produced great thrill for the sitting spectators. In the first semi-final Kashan Umer recorded an upsetting defeat against top seed Hamza Roman in the marathon three sets battle. The score was 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3. It was the first set in which Hamza Roman raced up to the victory before leveling the tally at 3-3. It was the second and third sets in which Kashan Umar, four year old then the little Pakistan No. 1 Hamza Roman, recorded victories at 6-4 and 6-3. Hamza had given him a tough fight overall but at the end Kashan won the battle. In the second semi-final Aziz Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa defeated Kamran Khan of KP by 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 in another thrilling match.

Both Aziz Khan and Kamran Khan produced good smashes and forceful hit at the baseline besides excellent service. In the Men singles semi-final Barkat Ullah of KP Police, a top national ranking player, defeated Ijaz Umar by 6-4 and 7-5 (6-6) while in the second semi-final Aqeel Khan of Pakistan Wapda defeated Yousaf Khalil of PAF by 6-3 and 7-5 (6-6). In the above 35 doubles Shahid Afridi of PAF and Shaheen Mehmood of KP defeated Iran Ullah of Police and Mukhtiar Ahamd of Kp by 6-4 and 7-5 (6-6). In the other matches Israr Gul and Jehanzeb defeated Zahir Rehman and Gul Hamid by 6-3 and 6-3. In the Men doubles Barkat Ullah and Ijaz Umer of PAF beat Abbas Khan and Saqib Umer by 6-4 and 7-6 (6-6) and moved to the final.
