36,000 people vaccinated against Coronavirus

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department on Wednesday said so far 36,000 people had been vaccinated against coronavirus in eastern Nangarhar province and vaccination facilities were available in all districts. This was statement at special meeting of the officials concerned at the governor’s house to combat the third wave of the coronavirus.

Dr. Naseer Ahmad Durrani, director of public health, told the meeting that 188 people underwent tests during the past 24 hours in Nangarhar and 78 persons were tested positive for the infection. He said there would be no need for imposing lockdowns if people used masks, kept social distance, washed hands, kept room windows open and did a number of other things.

He added that the Corona Center has the capacity to accommodate 200 patients and its laboratory could perform 300 tests. The official said so far 36,010 people had been administered the vaccine by 116 health workers trained in the area, adding that the department was working together with relevant departments to create awareness about the disease.

Nangarhar Governor Ziaul Haq Amarkhel urged the private sector to make preparations for treatment of infected people in private hospitals in addition to curbing artificial rise in prices of drugs. He directed the Hajj and Religious Affairs director to raise awareness about the need to observe distances during prayers in all mosques like Baitullah Sharif.

He also directed the Director of Sectoral Services to take steps to ensure that officials in all departments wear masks, avoid large gatherings and create gaps during important meetings. The governor asked he Public Health director to share with him proposals about measures, plan and budget and others for implementation to combat the coronavirus.
