An Ode to Flawed Perfection

By: Ali Akbar Afridi

So you have decided to say good bye
To part ways, for real
Ending the journey, we shared, abruptly
Was it your choice to do so?
I could not bear the pain, you say
You could not take away the pain, you say
But I want more, I say
More of this journey, more of you
I have not had enough, of you
Please do not end it now
Lets be together, just a bit longer
Wait, there is time
Time has not yet come to end
But I am tired, you say
It hurts, you say
Everything hurts, you say
I am not strong, you say
I never was, you say
I just pretended, you say
I hid it all so well, you say
I want peace, you say
Why did you have to be so? I say
Your purity is peace, I say
You are transparent, I say
You were yourself, I say
You were weak, like us, I say
We all hurt now, we say
We want your eternal love
We want your smile
We want your glow
We want you to be ours
I am yours, all of yours, you say
But I want you for me alone, I say
I am for you alone, you say
I live through you, you say
Look around, I am you
I never left you
You carry on
I will watch and cheer you on
Can’t you see me in the eye of your mind?
Can’t you sing me in the beating of your heart
I am with you, my sweetheart
I just need a bit of rest
Everytime you want me, call for me
I will come
I will meet you in your dreams of ambitions
You will see me the glint of your eyes
In the sparkle of each smile
Till we meet again, I will rest
Good bye? Who said good bye?
So, be happy my darling
I love you
I love you too, dad, I say
