Avenfield properties case: Nawaz’s legal counsel continues cross-examining Wajid Zia

ISLAMABAD: Khawaja Harris, legal counsel of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif continued cross-examining Wajid Zia, the key witness in a Avenfield properties case against the Sharif family.

The former head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia, which probed the Sharif family’s assets last year, is being cross-examined for the eighth time after having recorded his statement in the case over six hearings earlier.

Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir, who has been conducting corruption proceedings against the Sharif family since September last year, resumed hearing the case today (Monday).

Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar also appeared before the accountability court.

In today’s proceedings, harsh words were exchanged between Khawaja Haris and NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi.

As soon as Harris started cross-examining Wajid Zia, the NAB prosecutor general objected and said that the defense lawyer should stop asking the unnecessary questions.

The last hearing of the reference was adjourned till today due to the health issues of Judge Mohammad Bashir.
