Babar Azam backs Shadab Khan despite lacklustre performance

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has shown his support for his deputy, Shadab Khan, after his disappointing performance during the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

In the final T20I of the series, Shadab dropped Chapman’s catch in the 14th over, allowing the Kiwi player to score his maiden T20I century, resulting in the Black Caps drawing the series at an even 2-2.

Despite this, Babar believes in Shadab’s ability to rise from his current form and perform in future matches.

Babar also spoke about Mohammad Rizwan’s missed opportunity to score a second T20 century and conceded that it is natural for players to feel under pressure when nearing a milestone. He also defended his decision not to introduce Iftikhar in attack against two left-handed batters, stating that he wanted to use his best bowling resources.

Regarding his captaincy, Babar mentioned that he always analyses his match decisions and tries not to repeat any mistakes.

He also dispelled the impression that Eid Holidays made things tricky for Pakistan cricketers and expressed his desire to win the forthcoming one-day series with the help of new team members who will be joining the squad.
