ISLAMABAD: PPP Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accused President Arif Alvi of abrogating the Constitution twice, saying calling the National Assembly session is “not a matter for this head of state”.
Talking to newsmen outside the Supreme Court building after attending hearing of presidential reference regarding death of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on Tuesday, Bilawal said “I think two cases can be filed against President Alvi for violating the constitution. One case will be for dissolving the assembly during the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and the other for not convening the National Assembly session.”
The PPP chairman said President Alvi is abrogating the Constitution and is not fulfilling his duty. “We will replace President Alvi through election,” he added.
Bilawal said President Alvi wasn’t suitable for the office as he had completed his tenure and violated the constitution in the past too. “The president was again violating not only his oath but also the Constitution,” he added.
Bilawal stressed that all the institutions would have to work within the given constitutional domain.
Bilawal emphasized the importance of reconciliation among politicians to ensure political stability and strengthen democracy in the country.
He said a number of problems being faced by the country would automatically be resolved, once political leaders start respecting one another. He said no institution will respect politicians if they do not respect their fellow peers.
There would be more May 9-like incidents if you do politics outside the law. “The people who were involved in May 9 vandalism do not have the numbers to form a government on their own,” he added.
To a question, he said that PTI’s problem is that it does not admit its mistakes, it does not believe in the constitution, democracy or this system. the mistake.
The former foreign minister maintained that politicians should respect each other; otherwise no one would respect them.
Responding to a question, Bilawal said Asif Ali Zardari after his election as president will appoint governors of all the provinces.
Replying to a question, he, however, said the process of shortlisting potential names for provincial governors has not yet started.
To another query, he replied the Sunni Ittehad Council did not ask for his vote against Shehbaz Sharif in the election for prime minister’s slot, nor did they try to contact him.
PTI leader and counsel Babar Awan has said that the power to summon a session of the National Assembly only lies with President Arif Alvi and not with speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad on Tuesday, Babar Awan said, “According to the Constitution, the president can summon the National Assembly session. The speaker has no authority to summon the session.”
He further asserted that summoning the session would be equivalent to going against the Constitution. “If any government will be formed, it would be against the Constitution. The verdict of the case about Qasim Suri’s ruling is present; a speaker can only adjourn a session,” he added.
