Buzdar expresses anger over delay in release of funds

LAHORE: The Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed anger over the delay in release of funds to the Pakistani students studying in China on government’s scholarship program. According to a private television channel report, CM Buzdar has directed secretary Higher education to submit a report in this regard. The CM ordered to issue Rs 20 crore for the students in China.

The CM further directed the authorities that in future such negligence will not be tolerated. He said it was the responsibility of concerned departments to provide funds to students timely. Earlier, it surfaced on media that the future of many Pakistani nationals studying in China is at stake and they are living a dilapidated life as the Punjab government hasn’t yet released funds for them.

The former Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif initiated the Chinese Language Scholarship Programme, under which, 500 students from across the Punjab province were sent to various Chinese Universities for two years in four phases.

The students of first three batches returned to the Country following the completion of their courses; however, 150 students of the fourth batch are still in China. Since the incumbent Punjab government hasn’t issued funds for them for the programme for last two months,they are forced to deal with a worrisome situation.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson to Punjab Chief Minister Dr Shahbaz Gill has said that the provincial government has released funds worth Rs 200 million for Pakistani students in China. Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident where three newborn babies died at the District Head Quarters (DHQ) Hospital in Sahiwal on Sunday after the air conditioner ran down in the nursery.

Meanwhile, The CM has asked the authorities to submit a detailed report after investigating the matter. He said a strict action would be taken against those responsible for the tragic incident. He said Punjab government stands with the grieved families at this moment of sorrow. Earlier,the family members of the newborns staged protest against the hospital administration and accused that the incident occurred due to negligence. The hospital management confirmed the deaths of three babies. On the other hand, Sahiwal Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mian Zaman Wattoo took notice of the incident and ordered to investigate the matter. He also paid an emergency visit to the hospital and directed to provide all facilities at the children ward.
