Crime rate down in Dir during 2017

TIMERGARA: The overall performance of Lower Dir police in 2017 recorded decrease in crimes’ rate and increase in arms’ recovery as compared to 2016.

Briefing local journalists at his office here on Sunday the district police officer Nowsher Khan said no incident of terror act had occurred during the year however police registered 2 cases of killing and 2 cases of attempted murders under terrorism act during the year.

According to official record slight increase in road accidents as compared to 2016 has been recorded wherein 49 cases of fatal accidents, 115 nonfatal while 3461 cases of road accidents due to over speed had been registered during the year 2017.

The DPO told journalists that the figures showed decrease in crimes rate and increase in arms’ recovery during the year.

The DPO said that police performance during the year had improved as compared to 2016.

He said that 39 Kalashnikovs, 17 dynamites, 56 rifles, 101 guns, 233 pistols, 20 draggers, 5588 cartridges of different bores, 6.75 kg of explosives, 336 chargers, 100 detonators, one time bomb, 04 hand grenades, 2772 kg contrabands were recovered during the year. In contrabands 297.180 kg of charas, 1.59 kg opium, 677 g heroin and 12 bottles of wine were recovered.

He said that 244 proclaimed offenders were arrested during raids from different parts of the district. The DPO said that street crimes had decreased this year. He said a total of 56 cases of murders, 58 of attempted murders, 83 of intimidation, 2 cases of kidnapping and one of child kidnapping cases had been registered.

The DPO said no case of forced robbery, highway theft, bank dacoit, car and motorcycle lifting, kidnapping for ransom and Zina Bil jabr had been registered during 2017.
