Entry of drivers restrict at Torkham border

F.P. Report

LANDI KOTAL: Import and export besides transit trade suspended at Torkham border when entry of Pakistan bound drivers was restricted at the crossing on Saturday without proper visa and passport.

Truckers said that since last night at 11:00 pm on Friday, the Pak asked the drivers to produce proper visa and passport while crossing into Pakistan therefore due to lack of visa they could not cross the border to Pakistan and parked their loaded vehicles at a parking lot in Torkham.

Assistant Director, Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) Torkham, Yasir Arafat confirmed the news and said that the border was opened for pedestrian crossing, however drivers were not allowed  to enter into Pakistan without visa.

The office bearers of transport association Torkham and other trade unions flayed the visa policy for the truckers and said it would certainly badly affect the business activities at the border.

Because of suspension of export and import, long queues of loaded trucks could be witnessed at the roads on both sides of the border.

It is to be mentioned here that after Army Public School on 16 December, 2015 mishap, passport and visa policy had been made compulsory at Torkham border; but the drivers had been exempted from proper visa but producing passport at the border was made compulsory for them.
