European Union delegation calls on Shujat, Parvez Elahi

LAHORE: An 8 members European Union delegation called on Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Ch Shujat Hussain and senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi at their residence here Sunday. PML leaders put forth proposals for holding of fair and transparent election in future in the light of rigging through Returning Officers (ROs) in 2013 elections.

During meeting, party leaders Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Dr Khalid Ranjha, Moonis Elahi, Salik Hussain and Rizwan Mumtaz Ali were also present.

Ch Shujat Hussain and Ch Parvez Elahi said that 2013 election was ROs election, this was also the stand of 22 political parties and they had objected on this as well.

They expressed the hope that for the next general election, Election Commission of Pakistan and Foreign Office endorsing the importance and effectiveness of the European Union Observation Mission will fully cooperate and facilitate them.

Members of the delegation while discussing political situation in the context of next general elections said that the European Union delegation is holding meetings with heads of political parties of Pakistan and want to know their views in context of these elections and it will issue a report ahead of general elections in which they will submit review of political circumstances keeping in view thoughts of these party heads. The delegation said that this is our routine and our reports have also been published regarding 2002, 2008 and 2013 general elections.

European Union delegation included Mr Nicolay Paus, Ms Ann Vanhout, Mr Jean Costedoat, Mr Hans Weber, Ms Hannah Theresa Roberts, Mr Colm Vincent Fahy, Mr Pawel Kryztof and Svante Torgny Yngrot.
