ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the Defense Minister’s remarks on Afghanistan, suggesting these do not reflect an improvement in bilateral relations.

Talking to the media on Saturday, he said Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement is not a sign of better relations between the two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“We have options and can go toward a better relationship by devising a better mechanism.”

On Friday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that terrorism is being exported from Afghanistan to Pakistan, and asserted Pakistan’s right to respond in kind.

Speaking in the National Assembly, Asif said, “Terrorism is being exported from Afghanistan to our land, and there is evidence of terrorist hideouts there.”

“We also have the right to retaliate in defence of our people.”

Fazlur Rehman warned that decisions made in the wake of military training could isolate the country regionally. “We could lose all friends in the region.”

He expressed concern that such decisions are being made blindly, without recognizing their impact on the nation’s future.
