Fresh clashes displace hundreds of families

HABARGHAN: The fresh clashes that took place between security forces and Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) also known as Daesh in the Darzab district of Jowzjan displaced hundreds of families, police said Tuesday.

The fresh attacks launched by IS-K fighters on Afghan security forces’ outposts in the Darzab district a week ago still continue. Both the sides suffered heavy casualties in the ensuing clashes.

The Daesh gunmen again mounted group attacks on police posts in the centre of Darzab district, sparking a bloody gunfight.

Muhammad Ismail, district police chief, told AIP that the clash displaced hundreds of families.

He said both the warring sides also suffered casualties but they had no accurate count.

Though the district police chief claimed the police morale was high, local residents and Jowzjan’s provincial council feared that the district may fall to Daesh.

The police chief has requested air support.

Over the past one, local officials said, four security posts were destroyed and numerous police were killed and wounded in Daesh attacks.
