General elections: Polling stations in Swabi, Mardan declared sensitive

MARDAN: Out of the total 1056 polling stations in Mardan district 39% are highly sensitive (416 polling stations), 37% are sensitive (390 polling stations) and 24% are normal (250 polling stations) while in Swabi district, among the 763 polling stations,10% are highly sensitive (80 polling stations), 44% are sensitive (333 polling stations) and 46% are normal (350 polling stations).

In preparation for the upcoming general elections in Mardan, the district has diligently completed all arrangements to ensure peaceful and transparent conduct. Among the 1056 polling stations in the district, 416 are declared highly sensitive, 390 sensitive, and 250 normal. In Swabi district, out of 763 polling stations, 80 are highly sensitive, 333 sensitive, and 350 normal.

Authorities are meticulously considering the sensitivity of various polling stations on the election day. The logistical plan for delivering election materials to polling stations has been established by administrative and police authorities. Control rooms at the regional level are actively monitoring election-related affairs.

To address shortages in staffing for polling stations, relevant authorities have been contacted. Regional Police Officer for Mardan, Muhammad Suleman, emphasized that comprehensive security measures have been implemented in the districts of Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, and Mohmand to ensure safe elections.

The five districts have a total of 3388 polling stations for the 10 National Assembly and 25 Provincial Assembly seats. Among 3388 polling stations, 1081 are declared highly sensitive, 1288 sensitive and 1019 are considered normal in these five districts.

Each polling station’s sensitivity will guide the security provided, aiming to safeguard the electoral process. Though challenges persist, collaborative efforts at various levels are underway to address any shortcomings.

Suleman highlighted that a control room is coordinating with law enforcement agencies, WAPDA, PTCL, Rescue 1122, Health Department, and other relevant institutions. Their representatives will be present in the control room to play their roles effectively in any emergency situation.

There is an acknowledged shortage of personnel, ongoing efforts aim to rectify this situation. Coordination with agencies involved in enforcing law and order, as well as WAPDA, PTCL, Rescue 1122, Health, and other relevant departments, is critical during the elections. Ensuring continuous power supply during and around the election period is crucial, and every effort is being made to meet this requirement. The importance of reliable information reaching the public cannot be overstated. Authorities urged the media to play a pivotal role in disseminating accurate information, contributing to the success of peaceful and secure elections.
