Govt approves release of funds for parliamentarians’ schemes

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the release of funds for parliamentarians’ schemes.

As per details, the PDM coalition government have spent Rs 50 billion on parliamentarian schemes till March 2023.

The funds for the parliamentarian schemes have been approved and Rs 90 billion are allocated for these schemes in the current fiscal year 2022-23.

The government is also providing Rs 500 million to the Members of the National Assembly who voted in the motion of no-confidence.

Furthermore, Rs 70 billion was allocated for parliamentarian schemes in the budget but it was increased to Rs 87 billion and then Rs 90 billion.

The National Assembly earlier rejected the bill to provide funds for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the Supreme Court ordered to hold the election in Punjab and KP. Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the finance ministry has no funds for elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had also said that the commission is ready to hold Punjab elections if funds and security are provided.

The Supreme Court had set April 10 as the deadline for the government to issue funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and told the ECP to report back to it on April 11. (NNI)
