Heroics by Shamyl Hussain award Pakistan U19 2-1 lead in the one-day series against Sri Lanka U-19

Karachi: Pakistan U19 defeated Sri Lanka U19 by six wickets in the third one-day at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, effectively taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Opening batter Shamyl Hussain scored a magnificent 150 which ensured that the home side chase the target of 290 with ease, taking only 45.5 overs to do so.

After winning the toss, the visitors decided to bat first. They scored 289, while losing nine wickets, in 50 overs. Rusanda Gamage, who produced a brilliant century (110, 127b, 6x4s), was the star batter for the side. Wicket-keeper batter Sharujan Shanmuganathan contributed with 61 runs off 75 deliveries.

The three Pakistan right-arm pacers had a successful day with the ball; Aftab Ahmed returned with three scalps while Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Ibtisam both picked up two wickets.

While chasing 290, Shamyl’s knock completely turned the game in Pakistan’s favor. The left-hander smashed 150 in 109 deliveries and hit 13 boundaries and seven maximums. He was supported by Riazullah Khan who hit 48 in 62, including two boundaries. Arafat Minhas (34 not out, 35b, 3x4s, 1×6) and Haroon Arshad (27 not out, 39b, 1×4) finished the chase for their team, taking them to a six-wicket win over the touring side.

The fourth one-day is scheduled to be played on 29 October at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.
