HI offers to play role in protection of TAPI project

KABUL: After Taliban, the Gulbandin Hekmatyar-led Hezb-i-Islami has also offered to take part in protection of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan & India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. The 1,814-kms pipeline project which would export gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India was officially inaugurated in Herat province on Friday.

The Hezb-i-Islami sees the TAPI project as a vital project and considers its inauguration as an important development not only on economic point of views but also very valuable on political aspect as well as helpful and effective in bring an end to the ongoing crisis, the Hezb-i-Islami said in a statement Sunday.

Urging the nation to stop internal and external anti-Afghanistan elements who wanted to create hurdles for such national projects, the Hezb-i-Islami said they are ready to play role in the protection of the TAPI project.

It said some countries consider the Afghan war as way to capture economic markets in central and South Asia and for this purpose they made huge investment in the continuation of Afghan war over the past three decades.

He urged people of the areas from where the TAPI gas pipeline passes through to be ready to protect the project in their respective areas.
