Kinnow export witnessed satisfactory this season

SARGODHA: The export of kinnow remained satisfactory during the current season as more than 380,000 metric ton kinnow worth 200 million dollars were exported from the country. Director Citrus Research Institute Sargodha (CRIS), while talking to this scribe here on Tuesday, said that 370,000 metric ton kinnow was exported during last year.

The kinnow was exported to international markets including in Russia, Ukraine, ME, Indonesia and other Central Asian countries while next year Kinnow would also be exported to China. The CRIS was also striving hard to produce best yield and all out efforts were being made in this regard, he added. He further stated that research institute was also providing assistance and counselling to growers so that they could get best produce after handling their orchards with modern techniques.

The CRIS has already distributed 5,000 seedless saplings to growers, he said and added that 10,000 saplings would also be distributed in upcoming season.

The citrus orchards had been faced a lot of problems during current season while it had also been improved with supportive weather condition and winter rains, adding that better yield was also expected in next season. He advised farmers to use fertilizers and spray for their orchards so that diseases attacks could be controlled while pruning process and proper irrigation was also needed to make Kinnow trees healthy.

He stated that some orchards were also being facing foot rote disease attacks which also dry branches of tree. He advised growers to use Metalyx Moncoz medicine to avoid its affects.
