KP population department recruit clerics for population control

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will recruit more than one thousand Ulama (Clerics) while around 1,020 centers will be established across the province for reproductive health.

According to the District Health Information System Khyber Pakhtunkhwa latest report said that around 208 mothers died in KP during pregnancy because of the lack of education on reproductive health among the communities.

Talking to The Frontier Post Secretary Population and Welfare Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Fazli Nabi said that the provincial government has already approved PC-1 to recruit more than one thousand clerics and established more than one thousand centers across KP to educate people on reproductive health and control population.

He further said that Population department chalked out his policy according to the FP-2020, adding that the department has taken many initiatives to control the rapid growth of population in the province.

Secretary Population added that there were more than 17000 LHWs as all of them were involve in the polio vaccination campaign, adding that polio is also a serious issue but the department is try his best to involve the entire health department to control the population and educate the community on family planning . He added that the department has enrolled 21 Ulema /Imam as they recruited in four district of KP including Batagram, Torghar, Nowshera, and Malakand on pilot basis under the project Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Population and Research Training Institute and Social Mobilization.

He lamented that in KP still child marriage process is continue because of the lack of political well , adding that from 15-20 years when a women is married, she facing multiple consequences which increase Maternal Mortality Ratio.

Fazli Nabi added that in Pakistan 31 % youth with the age of 15 to 30 years as this age is very important and the department is serious to educate the youth on reproductive health.

He added that the department will soon sign MOU with education department to give education to the university and college students regarding reproductive health and family planning.

He further said that the department already conduct visits to colleges and universities where doctors and team of population department were take classes with students and were providing them education on reproductive health.

According to the Pakistan Democratic and Health Survey Report around 275 mothers died in the country out of 100,000 while more than 8,000 babies died during pregnancy complication in the country.

Similarly according to the US pop-council survey every in Pakistan around 2 million illegal abortions were reported in the country while most of the people were preferred to visit quacks which increase the MMR ratio.
