Ministry failed to control power thefts

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari instead of preventing power thefts, declared other departments responsible for high tariffs.

The credible sources have disclosed that ministry badly failed to control power thefts incidents and instead of admitting its mistake it putting responsible to other departments. According to documents submitted to National Assembly, Awais Leghari accepted this fact that due to high tariffs ordinary consumers unable to pay their bills, extraordinary taxes and power theft also among big reasons for high bills.

According to Federal Minister major power theft occurred in Sukkur Electric Power Supply Company, Haiderabad Electric Supply Company, Multan Elector Supply Company, Quetta Electric Supply Company and Peshawar Electric Supply Company.

Financial system of these area not streamlined so they use to steal electricity, also said that WAPDA officials are also directly involved in power theft.

According to Ministry of Energy Power Division, measures haven’t being taken yet to prevent electric theft incidents or officials involved in this crime because of peak season.
