KABUL (BNA): Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have signed three separate memoranda of understanding to establish vineyards, drip irrigation orchards, cotton fields, wheat fields, melon farms, and vegetable gardens in an area of 1,600 hectares in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock of Afghanistan has released a statement regarding the collaboration with Uzbekistan in implementing the plan.
The two countries are working on various projects, including establishing orchards on a 100-hectare land, implementing drip irrigation on 500 hectares for various fruit orchards, cultivating genetically modified wheat and cotton on a 500-hectare land, and growing various types of vegetable seeds and melons on another 500-hectare field.
These initiatives involve technical and financial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan’s agriculture sector experts in different regions of the country with suitable water, soil, and climate conditions.
The MoUs have been signed by the agricultural authorities of both countries in the presence of Mawlavi Sadr Aazam Osmani, the deputy minister of agriculture, irrigation, and livestock of Afghanistan, and Jamshid Khodjaev, the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, in the city of Tashkent.
Additionally, the ministry has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Afghanistan and the Agricultural University of Uzbekistan, stating that experts from both countries are expected to collaborate in the future.
