NAB arrests 226 persons in six months

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested 226 accused in different cases and 27 accused were convicted by accountability courts during last six months.

The Bureau also authorized 55 complaint verification, 39 inquiries and 33 investigations during the period.

In a statement issued here, Chairman NAB, Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal said Bureau’s proactive Anti Corruption strategy has proved very successful in last six months after assumption of his responsibilities as Chairman.

He said NAB has practically proved with its actions against corrupt across the board without any pressure and favoritism.

The Bureau has filed 197 corruption references in Accountability Courts in six months which is a record achievement, he said and added “Investigation of mega and white collar crimes is very difficult and it takes years by years but when aim, mission and vision will be clear, everything is possible.”

The Chairman said number of complaints have been increased as compared to same period of last year from Oct 11, 2017 to April 15, 2018.

The comparative figures are indicative of hard work, transparency being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty. Whole nation is lauding NAB’s efforts, he added.       He said NAB has initiated complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations against politicians, bureaucrats and ex-military officers across the board on allegations of corruption.

The indiscriminate actions have increased prestige of NAB manifold due to indiscriminate and visible action against mighty as aim is to apprehend the corrupt and deposit looted amount in national exchequer.

He said NAB reviews performance of all regional bureaus on regular basis.
