Pakistan witness sharp decrease in coronavirus cases

ISLAMABAD: All the coronavirus indicators took a deep plunge with Pakistan registering a sharp decrease in single-day fatalities, infections and positivity rate.

The Covid-19 deaths were down to just 26, daily infections were nosedived to under 1,000 and the positivity ratio was also receded to under two percent after several months.

According to the statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Friday morning, Pakistan recorded only 26 coronavirus deaths and only 912 infections during the last 24 hours (Thursday).

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 26 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 28,058 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,256,233 after adding the fresh 912 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Thursday), a total of 45,619 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 1.99 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 2,763.

During the last 24 hours (Thursday), as many as 1,633 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,184,527. As of Friday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 43,648.

As many as 462,155 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 435,040 in Punjab, 175,358 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 105,983 in Islamabad, 33,040 in Balochistan, 34,316 in Azad Kashmir and 10,341 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 12,757 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 7,474 in Sindh, 5,623 in KP, 930 in Islamabad, 739 in Azad Kashmir, 349 in Balochistan and 186 in Gilgit Baltistan.
