F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: As the country’s seventh population and house census continues, it is estimated that Pakistan population may exceed 250 million, Sindh’s 60 million and Karachi’s 20 million, on Sunday.

According to sources in the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, 140 million people had so far been counted in the country and 40 million houses enumerated and geo-tagged.

In Sindh, 9.7 million houses had been geo-tagged and in Karachi 8.5 million people had so far been enumerated but still over 50% yet to be counted in the megacity. The same is the case with house counting.

The PBS estimates that the Karachi’s population will cross the 20-million mark.

The PBS said on demand of the Sindh government it had given census data access to the chief secretary and assistant commissioners of all tehsils.

The sources said a meeting of the Census Monitoring Committee has been called in Islamabad on April 1 in which extension in the time limit for conducting the census will be considered.
