PUTA, bodies to continue strike till removal of UoP VC

PESHAWAR: The strike of Peshawar University Teacher Association (PUTA), Class-III&IV has continued since last month following killing of security supervisor in International Hall at University of University by guard of private security company.

PUTA along with other employee associations issued white-paper against UOP’s administration with special reference to Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Idress for taking illegal and immoral decision regarding future of faculty, institution and students.

Vice Chancellor UOP Dr. Muhammad Idress allegedly involved tempering of minutes of different meetings including senate and syndicate meetings by violating University Act. VC has also terminated Dean and Chairpersons without any illegal ground while the security situation become miserable in the greater varsity campus following appointment of Dr. Idress as Vice Chancellor at UOP.

These allegations placed by Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprised of PUTA, Class-III&IV during joint media talk following VC Dr. Idress baseless narrative against UOP academia and academics for protecting his incompetence and nepotism on the sake of historical Peshawar’s varsity. This was claimed by PUTA leaders Dr. Uzair, Dr. Suleiman and Class-IV president Imdad in joint press talk.

The speakers claimed that teachers have been transferred to irrelative departments, illegal deduction from salaries, didn’t issuing No Objection Certificates to faculty and withdrawal of conveyance allowance made by VC Dr. Idress to victimize staff for compelling them to toe with his will.

VC UOP has issued Showcase notices and called explanation from staff by violating process and procedure, misuse varsity resources and deduction from employees residing inside the greater varsity’s campus. They blamed Dr. Idress by enrolling his niece at Jinnah College for Women on employee’s quota. The protesting staff blamed that VC Dr. Idress using delaying tactics in selection faculty, ignorance towards administrative operations at varsity, misuse of power in allotment of houses and stopping election on vacant seats of syndicate.

The speakers placed over 17-allegation of corruptions and distorting image of the varsity by levelling allegations of fake degrees against teachers and demanded impartial inquiry against Vice Chancellor of the varsity. It has been a month since the educational activities at all levels were closed at the university and its schools and colleges due to an ongoing tug-of-war between University VC and protesting teaching and other employees and the issue remained unsolved as nobody from either sides was ready to show flexibility thus resulting in loss of precious time of students.

PUTA presented 17-allegations of corruption against the VC along with the proves to the Governor and also briefed him about the severity of the issue in a meeting with participation of all the secretaries including secretary Higher Education department. Governor asked the teachers to end their boycott of classes and assured inquiry against the VC, adding that PUTA told the governor that an impartial inquiry required immediate removal of the VC till findings of the inquiry. He said that the VC had distorted the image of the prestigious university of the country by saying that the degrees of most of the university teachers were fake. “If the degrees were fake then why did the VC not take any action so far,” he questioned.

VC and the registrar playing with the future of students rather the teachers, adding that the VC has threatened to hire Ph. D students and ex-teachers to arrange classes for students, which he anticipated to be another wrong move by the VC towards distorting image of the varsity. JAC threatened that they will continue their strike till removal of VC as well as probe into the murderer of security supervisor Saqlin Bangash and inquiry into mismanagement during tenure of Dr. Idress for imposition of charges against responsible for the chaos.
