Rashid Khan donates tournament earnings to Afghanistan’s earthquake victims

Rashid Khan used his official Facebook account to raise awareness about the extensive damage caused by the earthquakes in Herat, Farah, and Badghis, highlighting the tragic stories of many affected families for a global audience.

Recent reports to Khaama Press News Agency confirm that the death toll from the powerful earthquake in Herat has risen to 2,060, with an additional 900 injuries.

Abdulwahid Ryan, the head of Herat Province’s Information and Culture directorate, reported a significant update on Sunday, stating that the latest earthquake casualties in Herat have neared 3,000 people.

On Saturday morning, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Afghanistan, with its epicentre 40 kilometres northwest of Herat city.

Bilal Karimi, the deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, confirmed a devastating toll from the earthquake, with more than 1,000 lives lost and hundreds injured. The situation remains fluid, and casualties are still rising.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society has reported the destruction of 12 villages in Herat province, including Zinda Jan and Ghoryan. The earthquake’s impact continues to be felt across the region.

Dutch researcher Frank Hoogerbeets has warned about potential aftershocks in the western region in the coming days. Meanwhile, survivors in Herat Province express frustration over the inadequate relief efforts and the urgent need for support to rebuild their lives and communities.
