SCCI slams miscreants’ attacks on factories in Industrial Estate

PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), expressed grave concern over the increasing anti-social/criminals, miscreants and extortionists activities in Industrial Estate Hayatabad Peshawar and urged the provincial government, police and security agencies high-ups to take prompt notice of these troublemakers and criminals actions and stop them immediately.
Otherwise, the chamber warned that if the industries were closed down that would trigger massive unemployment and would also inflict huge loss to the national as well as provincial economy.
The reservations were raised during a meeting of industrialists, chaired by SCCI President Hasnain Khurshid Ahmad, held here at the Chamber House on Tuesday.
The meeting was informed that the activists of anti-social elements, miscreants and extortionists have been sharply increased in Industrial Estate Hayatabad Peshawar since last on week, noting that the provincial government and police department demonstrating irresponsibility in this regard so that will encourage anti-social elements and extortionists, which is highly condemnable.
Hasnain Khurshid said the miscreants had hurled hand grenades on two factories in the industrial estate Hayatabad Peshawar in last week and yesterday night, however, he added, it is fortunate that no calamity was being reported as result of these attacks.
Despite the number of hand grenades attacks, the SCCI Chief said businessmen are receiving warnings from the extortionists.
He said it is highly deportable that despite the relevant factories administration had lodged FIRs with Tatra Police Station Hayatabad Peshawar but the police and administration didn’t appreciate initiative/actions against these criminal activities.
The factories which had been attacked by miscreants are the prime source of employment for more than three to four thousands of workers and employees, Mr Khurshid said. He added if these manufacturing units were closed down as result of miscreants’ attacks, it would affect many families of workers and employees.
The chamber’s president warned that the investors/businessmen will withdraw their investment from the province owing to provincial government’s incompetence, non-seriousness and impassiveness, so that would be unfordable for fragile economy of the province, essentially, the miscreants will be succeeded in achievement of their nefarious designs, he added. He said the unmoved attitude of the KP government and police will sink the economy of the province.
Hasnain Khurshid urged the provincial chief minister, Corps Commander Peshawar, Federal Interior Minister, IGP KP and other high-ups security agencies to take effective actions against criminals and extortionists, otherwise, he warned there would trigger massive unemployment, if the industries were closed down in the province.
