Seven security personnel killed, nine injured separately

SHEBERGHAN: Seven security personnel were killed and nine more wounded in separate armed attacks in various provinces, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a press release issued by Afghan National Army (ANA) 209 Shaheen military corps in north, the armed opponents attacked ANA civil order regiment in Qarghan area in Dand-e-Ghori district of Baghlan province Tuesday. The security forces offered resistance, the press release said.

Four Taliban fighters and two ANA soldiers were killed while four gunmen and two troops were injured in the gunfight, the press release stated.

Taliban have not said anything about gunfight in Dand-e-Ghori district so far. However, they claimed killing eight police personnel in Markazi Baghlan district in Baghlan province.

Separately, Jawzjan police spokesman Masaud Nadim told AIP that Taliban attacked a checkpoint of pro-government armed uprising volunteers in Turkman Qadoq area in Qoshtipa district.

A pro-government armed uprising volunteer was killed and three more sustained injuries in the clash, he said.

Taliban fled from the scene when the security forces reached the area, he added.  Taliban have not said anything in this regard so far.

Meanwhile, Samangan provincial assembly chairman Raaz Muhammad told reporters that Taliban attacked security checkpoints in Dara Sauf Paen district.

Resultantly, four police personnel were killed and four more injured, he added.

Four checkpoints fell into the control of Taliban, he said. Taliban set fire to the check posts, he added.

When contacted, governor’s spokesman Muhammad Sidiq Azizi confirmed casualties in the gunfight. He, however, added that the security forces recaptured the checkpoints early Tuesday.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said their fighters killed five police in Dara-e-Sauf district. A cop was injured and two more captured alive, he claimed. (AIP)
