SNGPL directed to ensure provision of uninterrupted gas supply

PESHAWAR: A divisional bench of Peshawar High Court comprising of Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Shakeel Ahmad directed Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) to provided uninterrupted gas supply to textile mills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textile Mills Association (KPTMA) has filed writ petition seeking uninterrupted gas supply to industries as per rights provided by constitution while Barrister Asadullah along with Farooq Afridi and Yasir Khattak Advocates appeared before court on behalf of the association.

KPTMA demanded continues supply of gas in their writ petition under Article 158 of Constitution stating that the requirement of locality shall be fulfilled firstly then surplus production will be provide to other provinces.

The writ petition further arguing that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is self-sufficient in production of gas but SNGPL authorities imposing load shedding with different excuses while several times suspended gas supply to textile industry.

The counsel further argued that suspension of gas supply to textile mills is the violation of PHC 2011 judgment and several other decisions latterly authored by honorable judges of the court.

The counsel added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is economically weak while such situation shall agitate investors from investment in the province and added that SNGPL had also informed by KPTMA several times regarding court’s judgment and constitutional rights but to no veil.

The divisional bench directed SNGPL to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to textile mills across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjourned further hearing till date to be fixed.
