Society asked to end propaganda against anti-polio vaccination

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir deputy commissioner Saadat Hassan on Wednesday said that mass awareness was necessary for countering negative propaganda against the government vaccination drive. Terming the crippling polio disease as fatal for humanity the DC asked ulema, teachers, media men and area elders to come forward and play active role in eradication of polio. He was speaking at a public rally after an awareness walk against the polio held. The DC led the walk which was also participated by the additional deputy commissioner Ashfaq Ahmad Tarani, Deputy DHO Dr Irshad Rughani, EPI coordinator, representative of WHO, religious clerics and area elders.

The DC said that polio was a dangerous disease while some people were spreading negative propaganda against anti-polio vaccination. He said that two drops of polio vaccine mitigated risk of the disease. He asked ulema, teachers and other social activists to play active role in ending negative propaganda against the polio drops. He said that polio drops prevented children of paralyzing for lifelong. The anti-polio drive in Lower Dir has been scheduled to commence from Feb, 16 for which the health department has finalized its arrangements.
