‘Those who spread mischief and chaosduring Muharram will be dealt with strictly’

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Information, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel has said that the month of Muharram will be spent with peace and brotherhood. In this blessed month, any kind of mischief and disorder will not be tolerated.

Muharram processions and assemblies are held in fourteen districts of the province, for the security of which around 8,000 police officers have been deployed. 11 people have died in the last one week in the flood-affected districts of Upper and Lower Chitral. 6 crore rupees have been released immediately for the affected districts on the instructions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The caretaker provincial minister expressed these views while addressing the Ittehad-e-Bain-ul-Muslimeen conference held at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday.

On this occasion, Chief Khatib of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Maulana Muhammad Tayyab and scholars from different religious parties and mosques and teachers of Madrasahs were also present. Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, speaking at the Ittehad-e-Bain-ul-Muslimeen conference organized by the United Shariat Front Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said that we pray that 8, 9, 10 Muharram pass peacefully.

The month of Muharram teaches us patience and perseverance. Just as different sects and religious groups are united here, the people should also show unity and promote religious tolerance and unity while remaining peaceful in this blessed month.

The caretaker provincial minister emphasized that any kind of mischief and disorder will not be tolerated. Regarding the arrangements of the provincial government to maintain peace during Muharram, he said that Muharram processions and assemblies are organized in 14 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Out of these districts 7 are highly sensitive while 3 are sensitive. In these districts, 7,000 majalis and around 8,500 mourning processions are held.

About 8,000 police officers have been deployed for security during Muharram. The processions are monitored from the control room. The Department of Information is identifying those spreading religious hatred on social media. The caretaker provincial minister said that on 8, 9, 10 Muharram, there will be no loadshedding of electricity at the places of assemblies and processions.

About the loss of life and property due to heavy rains and floods in recent days, Barrister Feroze Jamal Kakakhel said that 11 people including 8 children and 2 women have died due to floods in Upper and Lower Chitral, 10 people have been injured and 18 houses have been destroyed while 104 have been partially damaged while 48 animals have also been washed away in the flood water.

The provincial government is in constant touch with the administration of the affected districts. Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry visited Chitral yesterday on the instructions of the caretaker Chief minister and reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief activities there.

He has directed to restore the main highways of Chitral by continuing the operation 24 hours a day. The provincial government has immediately issued a grant of 60 million rupees to the affected districts on the instructions of the caretaker chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan. Out of which a grant of Rs 20, 20 million has been issued for Lower and Upper Chitral and Rs 10, 10 million for Shangla and Bannu.
