27 in run for 11 seats of Senate from KP: ECP

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Election Commission has finalized the names of 27 candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa  to contest  Senate elections against 11 vacant scheduled for March 3 next as five aspirants withdraw from the contest on the last day of withdrawal.

According to the final list issued of these eligible candidates, 14 are in run for general seats, five for technocrat and eight for women seats.

The candidates who are aspiring to contest for technocrat seats included Maulana Samiul Haq as an independent candidate, Sheikh Yaqub from Jamiat-ul-e-Islam (JUI), Azam Sawati from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Nisar Khan  will take part in senate polls as independent candidate.

Those who in run for General seats of Senate are Mualana Gul Naseeb and Talha Mehmood from (JUI-F) while PTI fielded five candidates- Ayub Afridi, Khiyal Zaman, Faisal Javed, Abdul Latif Yousafzai and Fida Muhammad.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) ’s nominated two candidates each, including Sakhi Saleem Bhut, Bahramand Tangi, Afzal Janoon and Pir Sabir Shah, respectively.

While Masood Abbas is contesting for general seats on ANP ticket and Muhammad Ghafran on Qaumi Watan Party(QWP)’s ticket.

Candidates whose names had been approved for women seats included Mehar Taj Roghani and Nureen Farooq of PTI, Naeema Kishwar of JUI(F), Shaqufta Malik of ANP, Robina Khalid of PPP, Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli of QWP, Raeesa Daud and Sobia Shahid of PML(N).
