PESHAWAR: Due to lack of strict administrator in Peshawar zoo, the visitors at the newly established recreation site are disquieting Lions and Leopard inside their cages which may cause any untoward incident and serious injury to these precious animal species.
Some days before a group of visitors had thrown a large piece of cloth to a lion which was swallowed by the animal while considering it a food but unfortunately there was no one in the administration to stop those who were badly teasing these wild animals in this newly established Zoo.
A visitor recently visited to the Zoo said that some people were even throw stone towards animals while the administration of the Zoo were silent and there was no precautionary measures were taken for the precious species.
The administration needs to create awareness among the masses to discourage this behavior of the visitors. Placing inappropriate food inside the cage may cause disease to the wild animals as there are reports that one of the snow leopards falls ill seriously due to inappropriate environment.
When asked Muhammad Ali Project Director of Peshawar Zoo, he denied the reports regarding illness of the Leopard however expressed annoyance over the misbehavior of the people for teasing the animals. He said there is no awareness among the public and creating problem for the administration during their visit.
He said that several people of have been fined and sent to lock up for misbehavior with administration but despite of fine their behavior could not changed.
He added that this zoo is public asset and public should care about these things but unfortunately parents do not advice their children in this regard.
Regarding the entry of new animals in the zoo he said that proposals have been sent to various department and organization for purchase of others unique animals but it will take time due to some rules and regulation on the transport of wild animals.
The project director said that in case of emergency disease to an animal, especially Lions they have an expert doctor of livestock and veterinary medicines whose provides on the spot medical treatment to these animals.
It is pertinent to mentioned here that the foundation stone of Peshawar zoo was laid in February 2016 however the work delayed due to some dispute in its land and problems in its demarcation. The project is the first ever of its kind in Peshawar to attract the citizens for getting recreation and refreshment.
