26 killed, 23 injured in deadly Kabul explosion

KABUL: Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed that at least 26 people were killed and 23 others were injured in a deadly suicide attack on Wednesday in Kabul.

Afghan Interior Ministry told Afghan media that a suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to the Ali Abad Hospital and Kabul University.

Chief of Isteqlal Hospital, Saber Naseeb confirmed that 15 wounded people have been taken to his hospital and also said two bodies were brought in.

 Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and dozens of ambulances were seen ferrying casualties to hospitals.

The explosion happened on the first day of Nawroz, the Persian new year.

No group has yet accepted responsibility for the incident but the Taliban has rejected their involvement in the attack.
