30 people dead, hurt in operations

GHAZNI: Thirty people including civilians, security men and anti-government gunmen were killed and wounded during separate incidents of violence in Ghazni province, officials said Wednesday.

Gunmen attacked a security post in Khushk Bala area, western outskirts of Ghazni city, said Muhammad Arif Noori, spokesman of Ghazni governor. A civil order police was killed and two more wounded in the ensuing gunfight, he told AIP.

Separately, he said, Afghan air force conducted raids in Panah and Gosfandi areas of Giro district, killing 14 anti-government gunmen and wounding eight others.

In War Qalakh, Nawar district, he said, gunmen opened fire on a group of civilian, injuring five people, adding the victims had gathered to stage protest against newly appointed district police chief.

Similarly, security forces repulsed attacks in Kala Kochi and Baba Yar areas of Ghazni, Shah Gholi area of Qara Bagh, Sahib Khani area of Andar, De Daulat area of Khwaja Omari and Giro and Zala district centres over the past 24 hours, the gubernatorial spokesman said.

He said there were no casualties to the security forces in the attacks.

Taliban, meanwhile, claimed tens of Afghan security men were killed and wounded in the attacks.

The ttacks occurred at a time when Taliban announced the launch of their traditional spring offensive “Al-Khandaq” on Wednesday.
