5 Afghan soldiers, 7 rebels killed in Faryab violence

MAIMANA: Local officials on Wednesday said five Afghan soldiers were killed by Taliban militants in Qaisar district of northwestern Faryab province.

On the other hand, seven Taliban insurgents including a commander of the group were killed during an airstrike in Garziwan district of Faryab.

A security officials who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident took place in Bura Ghanha area of Qaisar district on Tuesday night.

“Those killed included two national policemen, two local policemen and one upraising group member, they were in a mosque when came under Taliban attack,” the source said. The official added that the Taliban also seized weapons and motorcycles of the soldiers after the incident.

Faryab police spokesman was unaware about the attack.

However, Sayed Abdulbaqi Hashemi and Mohammad Nader Sayedi, provincial council members of Faryab, confirmed the incident and death of five soldiers. They said the funeral ceremony for the soldiers was organized today afternoon.

In a separate incident, a statement from 209th Shin Military Corps in North said that Abu Talha, a Taliban commander was killed along with six of his comrades during an airstrike in Garziwan district of Faryab.

But Mulavi Hamidullah Danish, Taliban’s shadow governor for Garziwan district, said that there were no Taliban commander under Abu Talha in the district and only one person was slightly injured in an airstrike took place in the area. (Pajhwok)
