KABUL (TOLOnews): The Ministry of Water and Energy said that it has sent the five-year plan for the development of electricity in the country to the Economic Commission of the Prime Minister. Matiullah Abid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Energy, told TOLOnews that based on the plan, 200 projects that require nearly $4 billion will be implemented in the country within five years. “In these five-year plans, despite the presence of small and large dams, channels, and retaining walls, production projects, transmission, and distribution of electricity are also included,” said Abid. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Industry and Mines said that the implementation of electricity projects in the country is valuable in the development of the industry. Industrialists have always called the lack of electricity a serious challenge. “Unfortunately, Afghanistan’s industries are facing a serious lack of electricity, we still have natural resources of gas, coal, and crude oil materials that we can use to generate electricity from these sources,” said Sakhi Ahmad Payman, deputy of the chamber. The former head of Breshna Sherkat said that Afghanistan has the capacity to produce 23,000 megawatts of electricity from water, and investing in the field can be effective in solving the problem of electricity shortage. “If the Ministry of Energy and Water wants to focus on electricity production, it should not only focus on dams but also focus on solar, wind, and coal,” said Amanullah Ghalib, the former Head of Breshna. Earlier, Breshna Sherkat announced that it had created a committee to attract investment in the electricity sector to provide the necessary facilities for investors.
