KABUL: Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has said the Afghan National Security forces continue losing the territory to the militants and armed groups in the country.
The SIGAR in its latest report revealed that 54 of the country’s 407 districts were under insurgents control and it indicates an increase of nine districts in the past six months
Report added that at least 3.7 million Afghan citizens were living in the district under control of militants.
SIGAR reported added and mentioned UN claim that civilian casualties because of US/Afghan airstrikes had risen by 52 percent in the nine months of 2017 comparing to the last year.
As many as 10 US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan during the January and August 2017 period which is twice comparing to the last year data, it added.
Afghanistan is rapid growing population country and according to World Bank estimates 400,000 people are entering in the workforce every year and consequently more than 23 percent of Afghanistan’s labor force was unemployed in 2017.
SIGAR demanded from the international community to do more to help Afghanistan in developing its economy and attract new investment, insurgents and terrorists would be the beneficiaries.
