Afghan officials arrest 4, recover 1187 kgs of drug

GHOR (Khaama Press): Taliban authorities detained at least four people in connection with the trafficking of 1187 kilograms of hashish in the Pasaband district of central Ghor province.
The counter-narcotics department of Ghor province has arrested several people who have been allegedly accused of drug trafficking in the province. The accused individuals have been handed over to the judiciary organ for further investigations, the provincial police of the province said in a statement.
Taliban’s Ministry of Interior Affairs has already commenced the eradication campaign of poppy farmlands in certain provinces, as thousands of acres of poppy farmland have been destroyed by the counter-narcotic personnel of the Ministry of the Interior of the IEA across the country so far.
At the international level, Afghanistan’s drug dilemma has turned into a major challenge for regional countries and beyond. At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held in Goa India, and the Summit on Afghanistan held in Doha Qatar in the past couple of days, participating envoys placed major importance on fighting drug trafficking emanating from Afghanistan.
Since the Taliban seized power in 2021, they have promised to seriously deal with the drug issue, however, drug dealers deliver hashish and other forms of drug to the regional markets and beyond through different channels.
