ZHOB: Surrounded by Pak-Afghan border area, Sherani, Killa Saifullah and Musakhail districts, the only district headquarters female hospital is running without gynecologist, resulting in alarming mortality rate in the area.
The issue of non-availability of the gynecologist at the female hospital could not be addressed despite the issuance of her posting orders. Normal delivery cases are handled at maternity center female hospital while C-section cases are being carried out at male hospital by a male surgeon.
Due to non-availability of gynecologist and female surgeon, women patients are facing immense problems and they are compelled to get services of untrained nurses which some times resulted in the death of women and infants. The unprofessional housewives are running their business in different parts of the city that led to complications during delivery cases. On the other hand the attendants have also complained that patients in the labor room are given beds with blood-stained mattresses, which pose a threat to their health. The only state-run hospital in Zhob city catering to the patients of Sherani, Killa Saifullah, Musakhail and Afghan bordering areas.
“Nine female doctors have been posted at female hospital but they are absent from their duties since long. In the absence of gynecologist, the nursing staff handles delivery and in case of any complication, the patient is referred to Combined Military Hospital,” said President Awami National Party Muhammad Anwer Mandokhail. He complained about the lack of facilities and non-availability of gynecologist and equipments at the district headquarters hospital. He demanded of the authorities of health department that an immediate action should be taken against absent lady doctors in order to save the lives of women patients.
