HAFIZABAD: An Anti-Encroachment Inspector of Municipal Committee Hafizabad was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment on the charge of allegedly extorting Rs. 3000 as bribe from a pushcart owner.
According to ACE Circle Officer, Fida Hussain son of Ghulam Hussain of Rail Bazar had submitted an application to the ACE that Anti-Encroachment Inspector of Municipal Committee Hafizabad Amanullah used to extract Rs. 2000 per month for his pushcart and now he is demanding Rs. 3000. Thereupon, the Circle Officer ACE Shahid Mahmood along with a Judicial Magistrate raided a place and caught him red-handed while accepting illegal gratification from the complainant. The raiding party also recovered marked currency notes from the accused and registered a case against him accordingly.
It is pertinent to mention here that encroachment on the city roads has been multiplied due to the collusion of a mafia with the abetment of some corrupt officials of the MC Hafizabad. Although the newly posted DC has directed the anti-encroachment staff to remove the encroachments on the busy roads particularly congested intersections, yet some of the personnel of Anti-Encroachment Department have increased ‘bhatta’ from the encroachers.
