ISLAMABAD: Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari held a telephonic contact with JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and exchanged views on upcoming polls in the country, on Friday.

Sources said that Zardari called Maulana Fazl to condole the demise of his mother-in-law.

Both the leaders also discussed the current political situation and held talks on the upcoming polls in the country.

The duo agreed to hold a meeting in a few days to develop serious thinking with regard to national issues.

On Wednesday, Maulana Fazl called on PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif requesting him to support his party’s demand to postpone elections beyond January, citing the frigid weather conditions in the northern areas of the country. He expressed concern that voters would face difficulties reaching polling stations in such harsh conditions.

Only a day earlier, on Tuesday, the Maulana criticised the PPP and PML-N for according their approval of the new census results in a cabinet meeting after which it became mandatory upon the Election Commission to conduct new demarcations of the constituencies in the light of census results.
