Bennett urges aid for flood victims

KABUL (Khaama Press): Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, has called for immediate aid for flood victims in the country.

On Saturday, Bennett wrote on his social media platform X that the recent floods in the country, including in Baghlan where many lives were lost, remind us of Afghanistan’s vulnerability to climate crises.

He added, “Both immediate help and long-term planning by the Taliban and local actors are needed.”

The provinces of Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Samangan, Herat, and Ghor witnessed devastating and deadly floods.

According to the reports, over 200 people have lost their lives due to the flash flooding in these provinces.

The floods have wreaked havoc across several regions, resulting in the destruction of hundreds of homes. Families have been displaced, losing not only their shelters but also their possessions, further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in these areas.

This widespread devastation underscores the urgent need for increased disaster response and recovery efforts to assist those affected.
