FIROZKOH: Local officials on Thursday said 14 drinking water supply projects have been completed at a cost of 23 million afghanis in western Ghor province.
Khair Mohammad Naibi, acting Rural Rehabilitation and Development director of Ghor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the projects were executed in Shahrak and Tolak districts of the province.
He said the drinking water supply network would facilitate residents of areas which lacked easy access to clean water and would reduce water-borne diseases among children and women. Nabi stressed protection of the projects by local people.
Eng. Amanullah Noori, acting head of Citizen Charter program in Ghor, said that the projects included water sources, embankments, water reservoirs, digging wells, installing pipes and water taps, with local people contributing a 10 percent share to the total cost.
He said more than 22.7 million afghanis were spent on the projects implemented through Local Development Councils to benefit 1,420 families.
Ahmad Shah, a resident of Shahrak district and Abdul Sattar from Tolak district of Ghor, thanked the Rural Rehabilitation and Development department for the projects, which they hoped would positively change life in rural areas. (Pajhwok)
