ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan on Tuesday said that the government has signed deals to purchase 30 million doses of anti-coronavirus vaccine.
“The process of vaccination in the country is going on uninterrupted. The government is not relying only on vaccines it got only through gifts and donations. This is a misconception. Pakistan is already buying vaccines from three different vaccine companies,” said Dr Faisal Sultan.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad after the National Command and Control Center (NCOC) meeting, he said three million dozes have been bought already since March 30. Dr Faisal said, “We have signed deals of 30 million doses including a deal of transfer of technology with the Sinopharm company.”
He said there is a shortage of vaccines in the world as well. There are 1,200 vaccine centres across Pakistan and so far two million citizens have been administered with Covid-19 vaccine.
“Pakistan is increasing the capacity of the healthcare system every day. We are also looking at the oxygen plant of Pakistan Steel Mills and other options as well,” he said.
Dr Faisal Sultan said that if the situation of coronavirus does not improve in the cities then lockdown can be imposed.
Dr Faisal said that citizens will have to spend Ramazan and Eid with simplicity. The SAPM advised the citizens to adhere to the coronavirus SOPs to combat the pandemic.
He said the federal government has commenced Covid-19 vaccine registration for those aged 40 or above from today (Tuesday). Dr Faisal said that those registered in the 50 and above age bracket can now also avail walk-in vaccination facility.
“If you are 40 years or older please register and encourage others to register,” the NCOC head and Planning Minister Asad Umar had tweeted earlier.
