Establishment of Commission on forest-fires: PHC issues notice Pakhtunkhwa govt

PESHAWAR: A divisional bench comprising of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Qaiser Rashid and Justice Shakeel Ahmad has issued notice to provincial government in writ petition seeking establishment of judicial commission to inquire forest-fires incidents happened in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday.

The writ petition filed by Malik Ajmal and others stating that hundreds of acres land become ashes in forest-fires incidents on large scale in forests of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid remarked that secretary forest along with other competent authorities had submitted detailed report in this regard on his direction.

While Additional Advocate General Syed Sikandar Hayat Shah added that the submitted report has crystal cleared the situation, so there is no need for establishment of judicial commission but PHC has directed him to submit report in this in regard.

During hearing of cases regarding protection of forests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Solarization project director Syed Kamal Shah informed that as many as eight thousand schools along with two thousand Masjids have been transformed to solar energy.

Project Director Syed Kamal Shah added that a project is in concluding stage for installation of solar systems for thousands of schools and Masjids in erstwhile Fata which will play an important role to save energy while Asian Development Bank has awarded the project for its sustainability.

Director Mini Hydle Power Project Faisal Aziz Dawar informed that 316 mini dams have been completed which is providing 28.3 megawatts electricity while 291 projects shall be concluded in phase-2 while its potential would be to produce 47 megawatts electricity.

Director Mini power projects informed that Power and Energy Development Organization did not take any profit from the projects and added that PEDO hand overs it to local community for operating and maintenance.

The divisional bench has directed provincial government to submit report in this regard and also in supplementary petition regarding establishment of judicial commission to inquire forest-fires while adjourned further hearing till October.
