Food Authority issues warning notices to 72 schools

PESHAWAR: Four teams of KP Food authority on Monday deployed in various areas of the district in search of school canteens to check hygiene and cleanliness conditions and for ensuring stoppage of sale of prohibited items.

Over 72 schools are being issued warning notices upon having cold, soft, energy drinks and loose chips injurious to health of school going kids. Assistant Director Food Safety, Aneela Mahboob while checking leading private schools situated on Warsak road told that most of the private school canteens and cafeterias were found full of dirt and unhygienic.

She said that her team found many school canteens selling energy and soft drinks upon which her team issued warning notices to concern schools and bound them to improve the situation otherwise strict action will be taken against them.

While visiting Hayatabad area schools, Assistant Director Sair Nisar told that she also found many schools not following food safety standards. She said that most of the food items were found uncovered and concerns was expressed in terms of serving improvement notices.

“Most of the private school students were drinking tap and washroom water. The students were left with no option but to drink unfiltered and unhygienic water” she revealed.

Asad Ali, Assistant Director Food Safety while visiting schools situated on university road, told that loose safety standards were observed across the checked schools.
