HERAT: Four civil order police and six Taliban were reported killed during a clash in Farah province, officials said Thursday.

Taliban gunmen attacked a post of civil order police in Daristan area of Bala Balok district, killing four police, said Muhammad Naser Mehri, spokesman of Farah police.

He told Afghan Islamic Press that six Taliban gunmen were also killed in the gunfight. Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi, however, claimed that nine police were killed in the attack. Besides killing nine police, the Taliban also seized 13 weapons and ammunition, he told AIP without disclosing if there were any casualties to Taliban.

The incident occurred at a time when General John Nicholson, Commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission and Commander of the United States Forces in Afghanistan, is visiting this western province. Few days ago, a number of NATO troops arrived in Farah and launched operation against Taliban in the troubled Pusht-e-Rod district.

In another development, gunmen hurled hand-grenades on the house of an intelligence worker of Herat police headquarters in the Baghicha area of Herat city, causing no damage, NDS sources said.
